The MSA Lone Star Council is a coalition of MSAs across the state of Texas whose primary purpose is to unify MSAs for the sake of Allah. It serves as a forum for efficient and effective interaction between the various MSAs in Texas. The Council focuses on facilitating networking and training/development, and operates with the understanding that through cooperation we can achieve much more than we can accomplish individually.
What we do
Since 2002, LSC has been connecting MSAs to one another and to useful resources. We are trying to create a domain where MSAs can discuss possible solutions to problems and exchange ideas that help these organizations reach their highest potential. Additionally, we are focusing on leadership development for the executive officers to provide them with practical tools to manage their MSA board. Two of main events each academic year are MSA Showdown and MSA Organization Summit (MOS).
Since the year 2006, we have organized the MSA Showdown. This three days long affair consists of competitions – organized separately for both brothers and sisters – in sports and arts, such as Nasheed, films, photography, poetry jam, scrapbook, tajweed, film, and writing.
MSA Organization Summit (MOS)
Since 2003, we have been hosting an MSA Organization Summit (MOS), a forum for MSA officers to exchange ideas on how to improve their organizations in person. This is usually a day-long event, with multiple sessions addressing various aspects of how to run a successful MSA chapter. Starting from 2014, this event will be a weekend-long retreat.
The Council has been steadily growing over the years. In 2009, we had five MSAs in attendance at the MOS. This number increased to 50+ in 2012, with over ten MSAs in attendance. Similarly, we had 220 people in attendance at the Showdown in 2010, which increased to 420 at the Showdown in 2012 hosted at Texas A&M University. Showdown 2015 was our biggest yet with an attendence of 750 participants.
